2008 Resolution: Do the Basics…then the Buzz

Ever since Time named the Internet users of the world the Person of the Year a year ago, many marketers have been frantically scrambling to figure out how to get all the latest buzz words–social networking, user generated content, mobile advertising, video–built into their marketing strategy.

If you’re in that camp, slow down for just a second. The first thing you need to do is evaluate your current online marketing strategy. Do you have the three basic building blocks in place that will allow you to find, get, and keep customers online? Run through this checklist to find out:

  • Do you have an easily optimized search marketing campaign in place that is helping you find highly qualified prospects online at a relatively low cost per lead?
  • Do you have an engaging, always up-to-date, and interactive website that is optimized to get your site visitors to convert into customers?
  • Do you have an effective email marketing strategy that is helping you communicate regularly with customers and keep a loyal customer base?

If you can answer “no” to one or more of these questions, step away from the buzz and consider making this New Year’s resolution: “I will make 2008 the year I build a solid Internet marketing foundation for my business–one that will allow me to find, get, and keep customers online.”
